October 3rd 2008

Dear friends,

First of all: I was utterly overwhelmed by the response to Shanie’s call for the day of prayer last Saturday. THANK YOU SO MUCH for praying! I feel so encouraged knowing that people all over the world took time out of their own busy lives, some sacrificing food, for the sake of standing with us, believing Father God for a breakthrough in my physical body. I have a strong sense that something happened in the spiritual world on that day, and that I am now, more than ever, on the path to full restoration of my body. I feel good, healthy and strong! I still have the symptom of itching and don’t sleep much. I am tired, but compared to how little sleep I get, I am doing really well and have surprisingly much strength.

I choose to live by faith and not by sight. As I feel the itching all over my skin and look at the soars on my legs and feet, my sight tells me that I still have cancer. But my faith tells me, that “by Jesus stripes I am healed” and that my healing has already been secured by the work of Jesus. I am sure that I am healed and certain that it will fully manifest in body soon. As Hebrews 11: 1 says “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” As one of my good Scottish friends, Ian Campbell, says: “Faith is a fact not a feeling.”

Some may ask “if Peter hasn’t been healed yet, will he ever get healed?” Remember the story of Jesus and Lazarus? Jesus seemed to be in no hurry to get to Lazarus, when the family members and the disciples urged him to hurry up. They were worried, but Jesus wasn’t. When Jesus finally came to the town of Lazarus, the body was already stinking inside the enclosed grave. Time doesn’t pose a threat to Jesus. He is above time and has a different sense of priority and urgency than we do. To me it all comes down to trust. Do I really trust that He knows what He is doing? Do I really trust He will do what He says He will do? Do I really trust him enough to surrender my life into His hands, without doubting His goodness towards me? “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” (Prov. 3:5).

“San Diego Zoo”

We had a wonderful time with CammiAnn, after the day of prayer, at the San Diego Zoo. It was a special time for the 3 of us as a family to spend together. CammiAnn really enjoyed it. Here are a few pictures.

“Moving home”

We have decided to move to Denmark for a period of time. Our ultimate desire is to move back to our house in Budapest, Hungary, but we feel we should go to Denmark for about 3-6 months first. As you may know, we had actually planned to move back to Europe last spring, but due to my health we decided to postpone the move, which we are happy we did. We feel it has been right for us to be here in the US, during the last 9 months of dealing with my health issues. However, I really miss Denmark and my family now. We also sense that we have accomplished what we came to America for. The number one reason was our children, and with two of them now being back in Europe, it makes sense for us to be there, too. Also, Elizabeth and Matt plan to get married in Denmark in the spring, and we want to be there to help them prepare for that. We plan to live at YWAM Denmark’s training center from December 10th onwards. Our plan is to leave Arizona Oct. 29th on one-way tickets to Copenhagen. The reason I say “plan” is that we actually don’t have the funds for the tickets yet. An urgent prayer point!

“Fall ministry plans”

Nov. 1 – 20 we will travel to Poland, Slovakia and Hungary, where we among other things will be having our annual KKI conference with approx. 70 KKI leaders from all of Europe. We will also visit Amanda in Slovakia, be part of YWAM leadership team meetings and have time with Elizabeth, Matt and Matt’s parents at our house in Budapest.
Nov. 20 – Dec. 8 we will be in Thailand and China doing Human Development seminars for local children- & youth leaders.

“Treatment plan”

I am continuing with a naturopathic approach to cancer treatment, which includes massive amounts of natural health supplements and a very strict organic diet. Medical treatment, as you know, is very costly in America, but fortunately the naturopathic treatment costs only a fraction of what traditional treatment (chemo/radiation) costs (an estimated $500,000). Although cheaper, the $20,000+ we’ve spent on my treatment since January is still a lot of money. But I thank God that we have not lacked for a moment, and that He has provided promptly even before we needed it. We received an amazing love-offering of gifts during the first few months after my diagnosis, for which we are so grateful, and that is now all gone. For the first time since my diagnosis we are trusting God to provide for treatment costs, not to mention our upcoming travel & moving expenses. Thankfully, medical treatment is free in Denmark, so we will no longer need to pay for doctor’s visits, CT/PET scans, blood test, etc. However, we will still have the expenses for all the health supplements, organic food, etc.

God has been so incredibly good to us through this whole crisis and we have grown so much. Our lives are richer, fuller and more blessed than ever before and we are in awe at how God has turned something so awful around to something so good. We know that we are still in the battle, but we have complete peace in the sovereignty of God and we are moving forward with our lives. Please continue to stand with us and pray with us as we step into this next phase of our lives.

Thank you for everything. God bless you abundantly.

Peter (and Shanie)

I will close with a quote from my New Zealand friend, Kevin Stitt: “have faith in His goodness, not in his goods.”
